NEW BLOG NEW BLOG NEW BLOG

Though Blogger has been great, I have long wanted the ability to make a more custom blog -- better header, bigger images within posts, better look and feel overall. So, with the help of a friend from work (the super-smart and kind Peter Medina) I've got a brand new blog. I'm still working out all of the details (font color and style, etc.) but I'm already so much happier with it than this one!

So please make note of the new blog address: www.heatherkincaid.com/blog

And, if you visit my regular Web site, heatherkincaid.com, I'm still working on that. :) It may take quite a while... but it will get done eventually. :)

Enjoy!

BLOG TAG! :)

Well it's finally happened! During my almost-daily blog stalking of some of my favorite photographers -- Jessica Claire, Becker, Jasmine Star -- I've noticed that a game of tag has been floating around photography blogs. Now it's finally happened! I've been tagged!

Every photographer who is tagged is supposed to post a blog containing a list of eight things that are not widely known about him or her. Following this list, the photographer then "tags" eight other photographers to keep the game going. (I'm only tagging 3 here simply because these are the only people I can think of that have not yet been tagged! This game is getting around...)

The photographer who tagged me is Michael Blanchard, a young, very talented photographer from the Boston area. I came across his blog last week thanks to Becker who posted a link to his blog in a recent post. I visited Michael's site and was totally impressed by his images so I left a comment telling him how much I liked his work. Today I saw that he tagged me on his blog... So here goes with my list of eight little known facts about me:

1. I just graduated with my Master's degree in Communication Management. Though I would love to work in this field, I just can't seem to picture myself at a desk job for 8-9 hours a day. So, instead I'm focusing on my photography (along with some other side jobs here and there) for a while to see where it takes me. Though my dream has always been to work behind-the-scenes in some area of the entertainment industry, I'm realizing more and more with every photography job that I really really love what I do and can't picture not being a photographer.

2. I studied and lived in London for four months during my years as an undergrad and I have dreams nearly every other night that I am back there. I loved the city so much and cannot wait until I have a chance to get back across the pond! Especially now that I have my 5D (aka "my baby") and all my fancy lenses that I didn't have while I was there last... How great would it be to travel around London and all of Europe with that kind of toy to document the beauty of those cities?!

3. Though I've traveled to many places in Europe, I have never been to New York City or any place on the East Coast. I hope to change that by the end of the year when I make a family trip out to Boston and we make an appearance in NYC for at least a day or two. :)

4. I'm pretty much addicted to celebrity "news." I read the blogs, buy the magazines, watch the shows -- I just love it all. No, it's not intellectual, nor is it the best way to spend some of my downtime (as a well-educated person I know it's totally trashy)... but I like it and I can't help it. :)

5. I'm not afraid of spiders or snakes or any of the other typical scary things... but being next to a propane tank puts me on edge. Weird... yes, I know.

6. When I was about 6 years old, my sister and I were playing around one of the fountains inside our local mall. I got careless and actually fell in! A few seconds after the plunge, some older women walked by laughing as one exclaimed, "Nice day for a swim, eh?" To this day my sister reminds me of that moment-- one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. And yes, now I'm publishing it here for all to read... I guess I'm over it now. :)

7. I definitely have a thing for shoes. Typical woman, I know, but I feel like I can never have enough shoes-- heels especially! Red, purple, green, black, gold, gray, silver, white.... I have 'em all and still need more...

8. I live as though every unique experience will enrich my life in some way. I'll pretty much do or try anything once just for the satisfaction of knowing that I've had the experience.

Okay. There you have it!

Now to the following people: TAG! YOU'RE IT!

1. Meg Perotti - My dear friend and amazing LA photographer.
2. Kim Fox - The woman who introduced me to high-end photography and really launched me to where I am now. I love second shooting for her because I always learn so much.
3. Josh Goodman - Josh and I met while we were both second-shooting for Kim Fox back in May. What a nice guy and amazing photographer!

Thanks, Michael, for the TAG! Have fun everyone :)

Trina & Shane's Wedding

On July 28, I had the absolute pleasure of second shooting with my great friend, former roommate, partner in LA adventures and future television co-star (well... in our minds anyway)-- the fabulous Meg Perotti. Meg and I always manage to have fun together, no matter what it is we're doing, and shooting Trina and Shane's wedding was no exception! What a great couple to shoot... they were both so kind and fun and even included gifts for the vendors at the end of the night! Not to mention, shooting on the yacht in Newport Beach was such a great change of pace.

Coincidentally, Kim Fox shot Trina and Shane's engagement photos! Small world!

Here are quite a lot of photos from the day... I just couldn't narrow down my favorites any more!

While Shane was getting ready, I had fun with getting some shots of the rings. This is my favorite:
A couple relaxed portraits of Shane:

The moment when the bride arrived to the church. I love all of the expressions on the girls faces...
The ceremony was in this great
little church in Laguna. Trina sang a song to Shane as part of her vows... It was really touching.

The lovely Trina:
Before the yacht launched, the Captain warned those of us on the deck to cover our ears while he sounded the horns. We just happened to be shooting a few romantics out by the
"Wild Goose" lifesaver. So while everyone was covering their ears, I braved the deafening sound to capture the moment in the second image, which I think rounds out the series quite nicely! :) FUN FACT: The Wild Goose used to belong to John Wayne, which I found out the day after the wedding. I was wondering why there were photos of him everywhere! :-P

The Wedding Party! -- Such fun people.

During the toasts, I shot the speakers while sitting at one of the tables. Right in front of me was this cute baby... I just couldn't resist those great, big eyes!
The amazing sunset:
As I was shooting the cake, Meg was snagging a photo of the couple greeting guests. This was an accident, but I totally love it.
As Meg and I adventured around the yacht during the reception, we came across this group of guys who were having their own party, away from all the dancing.
A great moment on the dance floor:

The lovely Meg Perotti. :)

Roma & Chris

I shot Roma & Chris' wedding on July 22 at Maggiano's in Los Angeles. They had a great intimate wedding with their closest friends and family that included a beautiful, touching ceremony and a fun party -- complete with bubbles everywhere!

Their son Benjamin was such a cutie and was so fun to photograph, as was Ben's cousin Ethan.

I want to thank Roma, her sister Rosana and their mother for being so kind and concerned at the beginning of the day. I had an accident that involved my car door and my thumb (seriously no fun) and they were so sweet, understanding and helpful. Though despite the accident and some painful moments in operating my cameras, I made it through and got some great photos of the special day.

Roma & Chris, I hope you had a great time in Hawaii!

Here are a few of my favorite shots of the day:

The beautiful gown. Simple and classy.

It was a little hectic at the house where Roma was getting ready and everyone was a little stressed (which is totally normal!)... I captured this moment right before Roma realized I was shooting. I showed her the image and she told me, "You better keep that one!" -- Of course I would! :)

The beautiful bride all ready to go:

The handsome groom showing off his grandfather's cuff links. I love it when the bride and groom can incorporate family heirlooms into their special day!

Roma's mother walked her down the aisle. Such lovely women...

Little Benjamin silently watching the ceremony on the lap of his Aunt Rosana. I can't believe how quiet and interested he was the whole time!

A few romantics of the happy couple:

Little Benjamin and Ethan taking full advantage of the bubble machine. I just love this moment.

Congratulations!

Yanet & Jose's Wedding!

Like many other couples around the country, Yanet and Jose chose 7.7.07 as their wedding date. What a popular day to get married! Not only is it right smack in the middle of traditional wedding season, it was thought to be a lucky day to get married. Every wedding photography blog I frequently visit (and I visit many for inspiration, knowledge and just for fun) had a great wedding story from the day...

Here are a few of my favorite images from the day.

Yanet & Jose's daughter Eileen was such a cutie to photograph!

And she had a great time carrying the train of Yanet's dress as she walked down the aisle. So cute.

Here's one of my favorite romantic shots of the day. I'm a sucker for the sun-flare-coming-through-the-trees look! :)

Jose's sister was a bridesmaid and found a little time while taking photos to take off the heels and relax.

The kids saw the adults dancing and decided to try it out. So precious!

Their first dance was outside right after sunset... I just love the colors of desert sunsets.

Congratulations you guys! I wish you all the best!

Meet The Signet Ring...

I ventured away from photographing weddings a few weeks ago to do a pretty impromptu photo shoot for Ryan's band -- The Signet Ring. They have been hard at work writing songs and developing their sound since early 2006 and recently finished recording their demo album. In fact, I just heard the album in its entirety for the first time today, and it is amazing! I cannot wait to see what happens with them... they are all so amazing with music (and I'm not just saying that because Ryan is the guitarist)... they, as a band, really are a talented creative force. Not to mention, they're a pretty good-looking group making it easy to get some good photos of them! :)

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the evening... Stay tuned for more in the near future as we are already thinking about concepts for another shoot. And please, check them out on Myspace @ www.myspace.com/thesignetring -- there are no songs posted as of today, but they should be getting some tracks up soon!

The flowers as a background was actually Camille's idea... Such a great idea! I just love it...

This was up by the train tracks.. Isn't Camille beautiful?

Another by the train tracks with a different effect:

I just love this shot for some reason. We just drove until we found this huge rock by the side of the road... I love the textures in the rock and spontaneity in their poses.

Ryan was really into getting shots of them walking with the sun behind them. I had a lot of fun with this one adding textures and playing with the colors:

Christine & Bryan's Wedding!

I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to post anything in so long... I usually try to post within a few days of doing a shoot, but this one is long overdue...

I shot Christine and Bryan's Wedding on June 2nd with Kim Fox and it was a gorgeous day! Christine and Bryan met a few years ago while attending UCLA together and are quite possibly the sweetest couple. Everyone who made a toast at the reception had nothing but the nicest things to say about them as individuals and as a couple.

It was really great to be able to photograph their wedding and I wish them all the best in starting their lives together!

Bryan and the guys hanging out before the ceremony:

Really beautiful details:

One of my favorite romantic shots of the year: (...thanks to some interesting lighting and inspiration from Kim.)

Just before the garter toss... I love all of the expressions of the guys in the background.
