Mike and Irene's Wedding

I assisted the very talented Kim Fox (kimfoxphotography.com) a few weeks back in photographing Mike and Irene's wedding in Pasadena and Burbank. I worked with Kim the majority of last year assisting her on shoots and helping in her office with post-production, album design, etc. I learned so much from her, but, unfortunately, grad school became even more busy and I had to stop working in the office. However, I am fortunate enough to continue to shoot weddings with her on the side!

Mike and Irene's wedding was a lot of fun! They were so nice and fun and were so easy to photograph because of their great expressions. This being my first wedding in a while, I was really pleased with the photos! Here are a few of my favorites... :)

Here are the photos from the Oscar after-party concert.... Ruben Studdard, Tyler Hilton, Blu Cantrell and DMC all performed, among others. My personal fav was Tyler Hilton covering Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf" with 80s tribute band ADHD. Definitely the most entertaining part of the day aside from the fact that Meg and I had All-Access passes to anywhere in the building... pretty cool! I loved photographing the concert and felt pretty inspired by the lighting and the performers... looking forward to having more concert photography opportunities...

For next year, though, we've decided we would much rather be guests to such an event... just "putting it out there!" ;)

Last year, Meg and I vowed that we would somehow, some way, make it into an Academy Award party this year... We set that as our goal for the year without putting much effort into actually achieving it. Until this week we figured that all the pomp and circumstance that is the Oscar after-party scene would come and go just as it does every year. But Thursday night, Meg told me that she had been asked to photograph one of the after-parties and needed me to assist. Of course I said yes! Not knowing what to expect exactly, we prepared for what was going to be a very long, just-short-of-glamorous day, all the while amazed that we were actually going to accomplish the goal we had set an entire year ago by simply seizing the opportunity handed to us... The gig was unpaid as it was mainly a charity event, but was hosted by Billboard Magazine and took place at the Henry Fonda Theatre, so we took the job just for the experience of attending such an event.

The day was long, interesting and an experience to say the least... We both now know that we will never aspire to shoot red carpet events for a living, but may consider doing it again for an A-list guest roster! The hours are grueling, the environment uncomfortable and the shame that comes with yelling the names of C-list celebs as if begging for attention from these wannabe stars is nearly unbearable... especially when driving home at 1am after doing just that for the previous 10 hours.::sigh::

But we did get to see a few* interesting people and get some great photos... Here are a few of my favorite photos of my favorite people in attendance. Notice that Meg and I took some time to wander up to the rooftop lounge where we found an interesting place to take some portraits of each other! All I can say, Meg, is at least we did this thing together! haha. We would have never gotten through this otherwise...

Part II to follow soon! :)
